About This Project
The Yours and Owls Festival is a regional arts event, offering up 2 stages of eclectic local and international music acts along with a wide variety of fringe events and installations.
The cool bunch of fellows behind the festival were seeking a standalone virtual reality application to be developed as part of an installation at the festival, as well as a companion app available for download from the respective app stores.
The result is a hybrid of 2D touch interaction to access festival info combined with a VR component for use with Google Cardboard headsets.
An optimised Gear VR version was also developed for the installation to make the most of that platform’s hardware capabilities.
The mini VR world aimed to replicate the artwork and design of the festival’s other digital and hard copy promotional materials, within a 3D space.
The VR experience offers up a curated SoundCloud playlist from acts playing at the festival, 360 degree video footage, access to interviews and stage coverage, a live news ticker to keep visitors updated while in VR, some CG lunar experiences and a video dome, replicating the visuals to be displayed at the real world dome installation at the festival.
The app was programmed to allow video content and imagery to be uploaded externally and appear dynamically within the app, to enable content to be added before, during and after the festival without the user having to re-download and update the app on their device.
